Avoid Sony cameras for astrophotography

If you haven’t heard, since Aug 2106, a Sony firmware update for Sony a7 series cameras introduced an automatic noise reduction filter for long exposures that cannot be turned off. This resulted in small pinpoint dots of light (like stars) to be removed from photographs. This became known as the “Star Eater” issue: https://petapixel.com/2017/05/04/star-eater-issue-no-longer-recommend-sony-cameras-astrophotography/

Sony hasn’t removed the automatic filter, yet, and their newest camera the a7R Mark IV still has the issue: https://petapixel.com/2019/09/16/sony-a7r-iv-is-still-a-star-eater-after-a-certain-shutter-speed-report/
